Progressive Jewish students at U.C. Berkeley

Israel YES~~~Occupation NO!

Tzedek provides a voice for progressive Jewish students who support Democracy, Human Rights, Justice, and Peace for Israelis and Palestinians.

Tzedek’s Principles:

I.              We believe that the land between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River                    can and should be shared.

II.                    We believe that there is no military solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

III.           We believe that an end to the military occupation of Palestinian territories is a human rights imperative rather than a political issue.

IV.           We believe that the government of Israel has no claim to the lands it has occupied since 1967 and that schemes to retain them must end.

V.            We condemn violence against civilians, including wanton disregard for life and suicide attacks.

VI.           We condemn all forms of collective punishment, including mass closures and particularly house demolitions.

VII.            We support Israel as a home for the Jewish people.

VIII.        We accept interpretations of this “home” which differ from the status quo.  We believe that criticism of Zionism is legitimate and should be part of a healthy

debate within the Jewish community.

IX.           We believe that Israel must acknowledge its role in creating Palestinian refugees and that an acknowledgment of the losses Palestinians have incurred is central to any path to a just peace.

X.           We will not turn a blind eye to anti-Semitism, racism, dehumanization, or ignorance.  We reject broad generalizations about any group of people.  We reject superficial explanations for trends within any community.  We reject attempts to analyze a group of people which fail to acknowledge the complex dynamics within that group.   We reject worldviews predicated on fearing other groups.  We reject conspiracy theories and unsubstantiated innuendo.  We condemn all forms of intolerance.

We welcome all students who support these principles.
