Tutoring Information
Hi Everyone!
We hope you all had a great weekend! For those people who are interested in tutoring,
You can volunteer for 2 hours any day of the week as many times a month as you'd like (you can do it once a month, once every two months, once a week, etc.). The tutoring will take place at the Oakland TC office but the adult members of Tzu Chi will pick the mentors up from Berkeley and then bring us back afterwards.
This program was set up so that high school students living in a more disadvantaged community can have mentors who can encourage them to do well in school. The volunteers will help them with homework as well as help them understand material ahead of time so they can keep up with their classes. These students need people to look up to and a goal to strive towards, so who better than UC Berkeley students to inspire them to succeed and perhaps end up in UC Berkeley in the future?

Hi Everyone!
This coming Saturday, we are having our *Second *Hotmeal Serve event where we will cook and serve food for people at the homeless shelter in Oakland.
We kindly ask that you RSVP by replying to this* email with your name and number before November 13th, 2009. Because of the limited space in the kitchen, we will limit this event to only *15 members *and *5 officers.
The RSVP list will be filled up on a first come first serve basis. Please let us know if you have any questions about this event.
If we do not have enough drivers, we may have to either take the BART or bus. Please bring enough money for the BART/bus ride.

I don't know if you remember from waaay back when when we first e-mail all of you about flower arrangement.
The schedule for Flower Arrangement:
11:00 AM – Everyone meet at West Circle. We’ll have cars taking everyone to the Oakland TC office
11:30 AM – We will be eating lunch at the TC office. Sigu and Sibuo will prepare food for us! Yay!
12:30 PM – Sigu and Sibuo will set up for Flower Arrangement
1:30 PM – Start Flower Arrangement! Woot!
Come! It will be fun. RSVP for events in the future so we know who will be attending!!

Hi Everyone!
I hope everyone had fun at last weeks card making event.
To follow up with an activity just as exciting and fun, we would like to invite all of you to our Knitting/Crocheting event. *We will be making primarily scarves for people who are in need of extra warmth in our local community*. But if you want to challenge yourself, we won't stop you from making a trench coat! :)
We welcome both beginners and pro-knitters. For beginners, we have great coaches who will help guide you through the different steps and techniques in making a scarf. You have the option of choosing either to knit or crochet. All the materials will be provided by Tzu Chi. If you, however, have your own equipments, you may bring them as well.
Crocheting/Knitting is a skill that can get you pretty far in life. Ex: if you ever wanted a certain design on your scarf/mitt or if you want to make something for your special someone...*like the needy people in our community * :).
We want to have enough material for everyone who come so please **RSVP* *to berkeleytc@gmail.com* as soon as possible

Hi Cal friends,
Do you want a break this Saturday from midterms, homework, and projects? Do you want to bring a smile or even laughters to an elder at a nearby Convalescent Home? If your answer is a yes to either or both of these questions, we invite you to our event this coming Saturday, 10/3. This event is all about meeting and having fun with them while you're at it. There will be talented acts performed by officers and members are welcome to contribute their own talents and hobbies. As a group, officers and members will be singing songs with and to the elders.
Typically, this event ends around 12PM, but you are welcome to stay after and enjoy the *delicious vegetarian lunch* prepared by the Oakland Tzu Chi volunteers.
Since we will be making use of AC Transit at this event, please remember to bring your ID(class pass) or change for the bus ($2.00).

Hi everybody!
This Friday we're having a fun and interactive TC Movie Night and Tea Talk at Dwinelle 209. This event is really a time where you can relax and think quietly about the world and how you live in it.
To help you do that, we will explore some of the great quotes and still thoughts that are related to the community services we do in TC. In the past, we have also played cooperative games as one of the activities to help you relax.
This semester we're also going to watch an inspirational movie on a big projector screen in Dwinelle. The film will not only entertain you, but also help you connect with some of the ideas in our discussions.
For those that cannot make it to an event on Saturday morning, this is the perfect opportunity for you! :) Don't miss it!
We'll also have little snacks and refreshments for you to munch on.

We thank everyone for coming out to our General Meeting and Iron Chef event last week.
To continue with our great start to our semester, Tzu Ching invites you to join us for our Shoreline Clean-up event on Saturday, September 19th.
If you want to get up early and help out the environment by picking up trash in the Berkeley Marina with our awesome TC officers and members, then this is the event for you.
We will be meeting up at West Circle at 8:00 am and departing for the Bus station at 8:15 am. We have attached a map of West Circle to help guide you to our meeting location. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hi Cal Friends,
We hope you had a good weekend! This coming Saturday, we are having our Hotmeal Serve event where we will cook and serve food for people at homeless shelter in Oakland. Don't worry if you can't cook because there are many other ways in which you can help out. The event should end around 8:30 PM. Rides going to Oakland will leave promptly at 5:00 PM from West Circle, so please be on time. Since this is one of our most popular events, ask that you RSVP by replying to this email with your name and number before November 6, 2008. You might be wondering WHAT is the first social event? Well, it is a cooking event called IRON CHEF where you are grouped into teams and where you get to cook. WHY do we have this event? So you can learn more about vegetarianism and have an opportunity to meet other members. WHO is invited? Anyone who enjoys food or wants to test his or her culinary skills. WHEN? Friday, September 12th at 5PM. WHERE? Meet in front of Kroeber Fountain located on the edge of campus where Bancroft and College meet!

In addition to our first general meeting this week, we have our first event: Iron Chef.
WHAT is Iron chef? It's a cooking competition where members will be grouped into teams to make tasty dishes with a secret ingredient
WHY is important? It's Tzu Chi's first social event. Members will learn some of TC's ideals such as vegetarianism. It's also an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other in a fun and delicious environment
WHO is invited? Everyone who wants to meet other awesome service-minded people while putting their culinary skills to the test!

WHERE? We will meet at Koreber Fountain where Bancroft and College meet; it is right across from Caffe Strada.
