UC Berkeley Model United Nations

Founding of the UN at the War Memorial Opera House in SF

War Memorial Opera House, Founding Place of the UN

Berkeley's Model United Nations club was founded in the early 1950's, just a few years after the real UN was founded in our neighboring city, San Francisco. Since then, our club has been involved in on- and off-campus debates in order to gain a better understanding of international problems and conflicts and the role of the international community in solving them.

Ten years ago, Berkeley started hosting an international, collegiate level conference. The conference began on campus, moved to the Berkeley Marina and is now located in San Francisco. Held annually during the first weekend in March, the conference provides a unique forum for delegates from around the United States to learn about the world, engage in highly substantive debate, and meet fascinating people, while enjoying the beauty of seductive San Francisco.

This year's conference will be held from March 13-16, 2008 in downtown San Francisco. The wide variety of committees will address many fascinating and highly relevant topics.

Additionally, Model United Nations at Berkeley fosters the growth of both an outstanding traveling team and a highly motivated club with dedicated members. Our team is well known on the Model UN circuit for high standards, a very substantive method of debate, and excellent research capabilities. In other words, we are about working together as a team, learning for learning's sake, and having a wonderful time.
