About Us
MANAGEMENT
The Cal Women's Club team is under the Cal Recreational Sports Clubs Office. As a part of the sports club, the team is entirely student run. All aspects of the team, including scheduling, fundraising, travel, and organization is coordinated by club officers. Two captains, two presidents, a fundraising coordinator, travel agent,
scheduling coordinator, and various other positions are filled each year to keep the team running (see Meet The Team for more information)
GAMES
In the fall we attend NIRSA Regional Tournament, this year at UCLA, as
well as an instate tournament and an out of state tournament (this year at
UCSB and Boulder, Colorado). The season culminates at the NIRSA National
Tournament, this year in Pensacola, Florida. In the spring there is no
official season, but the team will play local games as well as one
tournament, usually at UCLA.
PRACTICES
Mandatory practices are held 2-3 times a week during the fall semester.
Any member failing to attend practices must inform the captains/coach in
advance (see Contact) and must be willing to sacrifice her playing time
during games. In the spring, the team usually practices 1-2 times a week,
depending on game schedules and field space.
TRYOUTS
Tryouts are held once a year for three days, two of which are mandatory, (it is strongly suggested that you attend all three) during the second week of school. All returning players are required to tryout; no players automatically make the team. Selection is based on skill, potential, and commitment to show up to the tryout dates. In the spring, interested players are encouraged to come to practice with the team. For information about specific tryout dates for this season, please check the Announcements section.
HISTORY
The Women's Club Soccer Team began around 1995 and was started by a student through the Sport Club program at Cal. In the seasons after inception we played other universities and then with the Silicon Valley Women's Soccer League in Palo Alto.
The development of Cal's Club Soccer Team continues. We traveled to our
first out-of-state tournament in the 2002-2003 season, and this was also
the first time to travel to Nationals. In 2004 we were Regional Champions
and National Quarter-Finalists; we reached the Quarter-Finals of Nationals
again in 2006. Cal has established itself on the NIRSA club soccer scene
and looks forward to another great season.
