About Us

MANAGEMENT
The Cal Women's Club Soccer Team is an organization within the Cal Recreational Sports Club Office. As a Cal Sports Club, our team is entirely student run. All aspects of the team, including scheduling, fundraising, travel, and organization are coordinated by student club officers. Two captains, a president, fundraising coordinator, travel agent, scheduling coordinator, and various other positions are filled each year to keep the team running (see Meet The Team for more information).

GAMES
The Women's Club Team is a member of the WCSA Premier League, which includes all the top teams in California. During the fall we usually have about one game per weekend and attend one or two tournaments in locations such as Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Our fall season culminates with the NIRSA Regional and National Tournaments. In the spring there is no official season, but our team will play local games and at least one tournament, usually at UCLA. Check out our schedule to find out when and where we will be playing this season!

PRACTICES
Mandatory practices are held 3 times a week during the fall semester. Any member failing to attend practices must inform the captains/coach in advance (see Contacts) and must be willing to sacrifice her playing time during games. In the spring, the team usually practices 1-2 times a week, depending on game schedules and avaliable field space.

TRYOUTS
Tryouts are held once a year for three days, two of which are mandatory, (though it is strongly suggested that you attend all three) during the second or third week of school. All returning players are required to tryout; no players automatically make the team. Selection is based on skill, potential, and commitment to show up to the tryout dates. In the spring, interested players are encouraged to come to open practices with the team. For information about specific tryout dates and open practices for the next season, please check the Announcements section.

HISTORY
The Women's Club Soccer Team was founded in 1995 by a student through the Sport Club program at Cal and our club has been going strong ever since.

We traveled to our first out-of-state tournament in Colorado during our 2002-2003 season, and this was also the first time we attended Nationals. In 2004 we were the West Coast Regional Champions and National Quarter-Finalists. Two years later, in 2006, we reached the Quarter-Finals of Nationals. In 2007, our team placed second in the Open Bracket at Nationals, and went on to suffer a heartbreaking loss in the quarterfinals at Nationals in 2009. This past year we fought our way to the Final of the Nationals Open Bracket in Arizona but tragically lost.

Since being established in 1995 Cal Women's Club Soccer has become a forced to be reckoned with in the NIRSA club soccer scene and looks to win gold at Nationals this fall! GO BEARS!
