Rough and smooth, an ancient mistress Stuck at her bottom? You're in distress Pleasure or pain- screams she'll supress Sure you'll acquiesce It's easy to guess. ~ Could from Togo, Benin or Ghana Bet there aren't many with Americana Luckily they don't mind: They're rammed from behind ~ Sport with a bow, Decorate with lace- (Need to have bad accent for this homonym disgrace.) ~ Feeble and frail (But not the pail) Worst kinda ale Metres for snail.

Noke - Is this a Raven style homophone riddle, or a normal one?

I remember an age ago, when raven said the amount of effort in constructing the riddle wasn't related to its hardness. I guess that's true from time to time. Its a ravenesque. Well, at least my take on them. Makes a phrase, that ties to the title. Guess it may be true by Friday....

Some clues...? let's see. certainly cryptic. confounding conudrum. There's seven of them. Its a language. Its a people. Its an animal. Its a stretch, this one. May have been better to say sports em with a bow, decoated em with lace... doesn't sound as good though. This one might leave you hanging though. It turns out a frail is a sort of pail. First two lines (not in brackets) are one homphone, last line the other.

I don't think I have any idea, but here are some guesses 1 - Since there's seven, the seven deadly sins come to mind, which may fit if you like flamboyant symbolism. 2 - The places listed are in Africa, beyond that I have no idea. 3 - Possibly be armed or arm. 4 - Brings to mind meak. Bad ale could be mead, I believe that was a low quality brew. Or a metre could be a meet for a snail. They all sound similar, I'm not sure if they're homonyms though. Well, there's my horrible guesses

The first one has always sounded to me to be well. But I don't get the seven clue, unless they are all poisonous. Unfortunately, the rest leave me scratching my head...

Hi! Been a while. Nope. Not poisonous- not really. Not sins. This thing good, Sin bad. Well is along the right lines. Ignore the africa part of number two. Find somethig else to fit it. Google that. Be surprised. I was. Last one- Meek is very close. It rhymes with the *right* answer.

I did a search for the countries and found vodoo seems to be practiced in them all. The last line must be week/weak

Way wrong with that. Voodoo isn't a language. No animal I ever heard of. Not pretending that they're a well known mob. The language isn't one most folk would learn at school. Bingo for weak.

This has gone on too long to worry about hiding text. Language is "Ewe." I'm guessing the bow & lace one is "hair." You get something like >blank< You Are (had accent of hair) Weak ?? EverGreenA3

Yep ewe are rammed from behind. Not hair. It works MUCH better as a plural, as mentioned earlier. Not hairs either. But, it is a body part. xxx ewe xxxx weak

The only other body part I can think of which usually "sports a bow" is the neck. Also, given the extra clue for the first part, I would guess at "sea". This would leave us with "sea, ewe, necks, weak", or "see you next week"

Ta da! Nice work, everyone. Extra CLUES. Sin bad.... okay, that one is subtle. First hint I intended, the alliteration of c in the begining. And there are seven seas.

I noticed the alliteration of the c's - in fact, I counted them up to see if there were seven of them initially, thinking that might be the subtle clue, but there were only 5 actual letters (although you could add an extra one for "let's see" at the start, but that only gets you to 6 - took me a while to twig that it was actually referring to the seven seas, rather than anything else...)
