simply says desktop application is a computer program that runs locally on a computer device, such as desktop or laptop computer, in contrast to a web application, which is delivered to a local device over the Internet from a remote serve

Desktop application and web application both are same as following types of web applications are developed for each website such as:
1. Desktop/PC/Laptop application
2. Mobile application
3. Android/Iphone application

These are the various types of web applications available I think so.
