Is it possible to have crosswords in Chinese? From my understanding of the language, each word is one character. What about Scrabble?

You are correct that most words are just one or two characters. However, there are crossword puzzles in some Chinese newspapers -- and the way it works is you fill in phrases rather than single words. For instance, lines of classical poetry, proper names, places, sayings and idioms (there's some neato idioms on the main site). However these crosswords are mostly for teenagers and kids. Generally Chinese people don't do crosswords.
I'm not aware of any Chinese Scrabble, and neither are some friends I asked. I don't see how it could work though since the set of tiles necessary would probably consume several trash bags

I suppose a computer game version of Chinese/Japanese scrabble would work - as the trash bags of tiles could be stored virtually on your hard disk. I certainly would be interested to hear more about the idea of Chinese Scrabble.
Surely it's only a matter of time before someone invents it (if they haven't done so already)?

Oh yes, it`s certainly possible to have Chinese Scrabble - in fact, I`ve played a board game version in one of those Bubble Tea outlets (something like a teahouse where people hang out) in Singapore. Since Bubble Tea originated in Taiwan, u could probably find Chinese Scrabble in Taiwan too. The game also came with a dictionary of commonly used phrases. Not characters are available on the tiles, though - only the more commonly used characters.
