There are various online translators, eg. Babelfish (http://babelfish.altavista.com/).
Or you can acquire a computer dictionary. I recommend Powerword.

Yeah, I made a few when I was living in China. ;) Chinese girls are nice, once you get past their initial reserve. They are like

OH PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH ME
 OH PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH
      OH PLEASE DO NOT
          OH PLEASE DO
            OH PLEASE
                  OH

I guess that's what you call an ode.  ;D

There's a great iPod application called "Qingwen" which is basically a Chinese/English dictionary with a search function and pronunciation sound files.

The nice thing about the iPod Touch/iPhone is that you can use the touch screen to draw Chinese characters as one of the input methods on the Chinese keyboard. (You can set up any international keyboards that you want in the international options section of the iPod, and then whenever you use the keyboard, you can easily toggle whichever language you want.)

Overall, I go to my iPod first whenever I need to translate something.

Automated translators are only good if it is a one line translation, if it is for a paragraph then you need to carefully check if the original manuscript has lost it meaning during automated translation. I have seen automated translation making such BIG goof up.

take care..

Hello,

Yes, the best bet is to ask a Chinese friend. The online translator is a joke if you know Chinese.

Best regards
