Title: PLEASE CHECK FOR EXISTING THREADS!!!
Post by william wu on Jul 30th, 2002, 5:35am
Before posting a topic, please check if a thread already exists for it. I know it is annoying to have to search for your topic. However, it's even more annoying to have a bunch of disjoint threads hanging around on the same topic. If too many disjoint threads on the same topic are developed, I'll delete some of them, and they might be yours.

The search feature on the site defaults to searching for posts within the past year. Make sure you change this value whenever you put in a query.

Searching for "3 HATS" (without the quotes) gave
http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=riddles_easy;action=display;num=1027807475;start=15#15
as the eighth result.
Ddi you check the box for the section of the forum you want to search on? Because that's the only thing that comes to mind at the moment which might lead you to not get any results..

@Wu and all moderators,
I have started reading the forum from the first post which is available. As I'm going through the post, I'm trying to maintain a list of problems and the corresponding thread (something as follows)
http://gowrikumar.com/wuforum/

Is it alright if I make it public (probably with a bit
more neat layout)?
(currently there is no link to this page, but I just gave the link to you to seek permission)

If the answer for the above is yes, can I have google ads on that page?

I have seen your list of questions here :
http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/riddles/cs.shtml
but the link to the forum thread is missing.

Regards,
Gowri Kumar

I don't think the "Search" is working. I typed in "Robots Collision Programming" and I got a no available search.

The problem is:

Two robots are to be parachuted onto random locations on an infinite line. When they land, their parachutes detach and remain where they are. The robots may be programmed from the following instruction set:

Go left one unit
Go right one unit
Skip next instruction unless there is a parachute here
Go to label
Each instruction takes one cycle to execute. Program the robots to collide.

Here (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=riddles_cs;action=display;num=1027843702;start=15#15) it is! You should have typed "Robot collision" instead of "Robots"(Robot is a substring of Robots). Also it seems to be a very old thread. I always set the no. of days to 2300 before searching.

Is there a way of sorting the problems according to number of views or the number of replies...if not,my humble request is to include this procedure..

@Moderators

CS riddle link is very slow.
when I search any text with Max Age since last post=1000, it becomes timeout. Gives error below

Internal Server Error(http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?action=search2)

It's been like that for a long time. Reloading usually works.
