I'd say the correct answer is "No human knows". There can't BE any other answer to this riddle, at least not at this point in time.
If there's a trick to it (like someone believes that number to be the number of atoms in the universe) it's just too bullsh*tty... noone knows for sure on this dinky planet.
If it was just the galaxy, then maybe, but when you try to bring in the universe... whoops!

Going off-topic:
I know that it isn't you, who have come up with this estimate, but here goes:
What is the purpose of the universe?
Have anybody seen the whole universe?
Have anybody seen one end of the universe?
Does anybody even know if the universe end at some point?
And if that is the case, Where does it start?
Does anybody know how many stars that currently exist? Does all the stars that we, today, can see on the sky exist?
If a star in a far away galaxy was formed yesterday, would we then be able to see it today?
I would say that it is impossible to give a near-precise estimate of the no. of stars in the universe, as the universe is a concept and a phenomena we can't really understand, less explain.
But anyway; the riddle isn't "how many stars are there"
The riddle is to have everybody agree to what you write down is 'the correct answer'. Basically I agree with chronos.
