All the items in the first list share a particular attribute. The second list is of some items lacking the attribute. A. with: battery, key, yeast, bookmark w/out: stapler, match, Rubik's cube, pill bottle B. with: Rubik's cube, chess set, electrical wiring, compass needle w/out: clock, rope, tic-tac-toe, pencil sharpener C. with: koosh, small intestine, Yorkshire Terrier, Christmas Tree w/out: toothbrush, oak chair, soccer ball, icicle Points to realize: 1. There may be exceptions to any item on the list, for instance a particular clock may share the properties of the 'with' list of problem two, BUT MOST ORDINARY clocks do not. All the properties apply the vast majority of the the items mentioned. Extraordinary exceptions should be ignored. 2. Pay the most attention to the 'with' list. The 'without' list is only present to eliminate various 'stupid' answers.

| B. No, that wouldn't be what they have in common. C. "koosh" is the name of a ball kids play with, it consists of a soft rubber spiked body. I tried to copy a picture of it for you, but don't know how to do that on this board. During the 1988 Christmas season, the Koosh ball was the hottest toy on the

Interesting answers, TenaliRaman, but how does a compass need colour differentiation and doesn't a toothbrush have fibres?

B: in the compass i had earlier with me had a needle with its north pole coloured blue and the south pole uncoloured (IIRC). C: yes i did not look at the w/out section there. But still i can say natural fibres as the answer

B. The day after I posted this puzzle I went shopping and saw a compass partially coloured green. C. A toothbrush has fibers only at one end, I guess this was to eliminate other objects that were similiar. All of the objects are villus in their entirety.

Aha, C is very clever! Nice one, Marly. Still not sure about B, though, surely a clock would be coloured in the same way that a compass is? I'll post a couple, if that's okay? D. with: laser, calculator, steam engine, space-rocket; without: astronaut, vase, abacus, nuclear reactor E. with: watch, moat, belt, planet; without: island, glasses, pencil, clock

D:associated with heat in one or the other way and they don't have it as their end product... Calculators have LED's,Steam Engine and Space Rockets no mention required and lasing action may be associated with some heat. E:The boundaries are usually circular..... as for the clock i have digital ones which are not circular

So close with, E, TenaliRaman, but I think T&B stole your thunder. Not convinced of D, surely a nuclear reactor and a steam engine are both associated with heat? In case there is any ambiguity I'll add an extra example to each, D. with: laser, calculator, steam engine, space-rocket, geiger counter; without: astronaut, vase, abacus, nuclear reactor, volcano

Tenali, as far as I remember, LEDs don't have much to do with heat, whereas a nuclear reactor definitely has. As for E, a belt's boundary isn't circular, and the planet is debatable.

Is Uranium not as much a power source as coal is to a steam engine?

Uranium is not a power source meant for the reactor,is it? P.S : How does one decrease the size of this typing space? it seems to be large even for short posts!

It's because of your avatar, TenaliRaman. I'll add an extra clue to with and without... D. with: laser, calculator, steam engine, space-rocket, geiger counter, telescope; without: astronaut, vase, abacus, nuclear reactor, volcano, Egyptian mummy.

Wouldn't D have something to do with specifics, like they all measure by a specific method or have limitations in how they work. The rocket goes straight up, the laser points to a specific target, the calculator only calculates what you put in etc.?
