Title: Train Station
Post by Johno-G on Jan 10th, 2003, 1:04pm
A man gets to a train station and immediateley knows he is bankrupt. How does he know this, given that he was not bankrupt before he was at the station?

I don't get it ....Is it because there are a bank in the Tran Station or...maybe he had a cell phone or even...a laptop...to check on his account or someone told him? :-/

It was a privately owned train station, the guy was the sole owner, and it was his only possession on earth.
When he got the the train station, he saw that it was destroyed by terrorist activity. He didn't insure the station. He is now bankrupt.
In desperation, he goes to throw himself off the nearest bridge. When he gets there, he sees an old, ugly women who tells him she's a fairy, and would help him if he made love to her.... but that's another story.....  ;D

No, he doesn't have a laptop/phone or anyone telling him he's bankrupt. The riddle also does not involve terrorist factions, nor ugly fairies!
The guy arrives and, based pureley on the knowledge that he is AT the station, (which is all in one peice, and does not have a billboard on it saying "you, yeah you there, you're bankrupt. Now bugger off home.") knows of his new financial status.

Well, it's harder now to avoid the standard solution (posted by NickH).

But, we may adopt it somewhat:
The gut lives in the Riddleustan dictatorship, where every person to enter a train station, must "contribute" all his money to the corrupt government. He had to take the train to save his family's lives (no one on Riddleustan may purchase a car, and he had to get from point A to point B in a hurry!)

Or: the guy had just enough money to by the entrance fee to the station. Thus, being AT the station implies he's bankrupt.

Other than that -- I'll stick to the regular solution...
