Title: Matches
Post by BNC on Jan 25th, 2003, 11:58am
Assume the following are matches:

Code:
||-||||=||

(the = sign is composed of two matches).

Move 1 match to form a valid equation.

well this probably isn't the answer you're looking for, but you can take the first match on the left and turn the equal sign into 'not equal'.

Cant you just move the one on the top of the = to the top of the -
making

|| = |||| - ||

2 = 4 - 2
:D

You don't need to move any matches! Just walk around the table and look at it from the other side! ;)

The question states that an equation must be formed.  I believe an equation must have an equals sign, and if it contains a not equals sign it is an inequality.

Might as well throw out a lame suggestion:

Move the minus sign and form a tilted V like this:  \|

|| |||| = VI
