the purpose of this frivolous poll is to test if the poll code works properly -- so everyone vote and submit! the bar graph percentages should work out correctly.

Now that you've expanded the list from just James and Eric, I'm going to have to change my vote! I had figured that anyone tough enough to put up with Canadian winters was a shoe-in for the victory. But with the new choices I have to go another way (not myself - I'm a wuss). Never underestimate the fighting capacity of a teenage girl is my motto. Kitty is sure to emerge on top!

I just had to vote for the Colonel. I guess I made a couple of assumptions there... Hey! What's with that! Darn ... should have voted for myself.

It was a difficult call, but I agree with you, Icarus; I teach in a girls school and they just don't play by the rules... Kitty got my vote.

Hey what's up with this; except for Willy, you guys have the girls on top, now I thought we were supposed to be logical here. I had to vote for T&B, cause he doesn't take any crap from anybody. P.S. Willy, you've got to do this more often, it creates team spirit.

Well, to be honest I think most of the people here are probably geek(y)/nerd(y), so they'd run screaming when they just see a girl Besides, I'd let the girl on top either way, it's much more fun

Well, I think the answer depends on how the winner is determined. If there are one-on-one matches until there's only one puzzler left, it depends a lot on luck. (With NickH there would be exactly 16 contestants, by the way.) But if the setup is like locking all in a room with padded walls - ok, forget about the padding - and wait until there's at most one left, chances are different. I wonder what the best strategy would be in that case... on Aug 20th, 2003, 1:03am, towr wrote:Well, to be honest I think most of the people here are probably geek(y)/nerd(y), so they'd run screaming when they just see a girl |

| Well, there's a good chance that taking a leadership role and suggesting ganging up on some poor sucker first can get you in the last two. As long as people are in a frenzy they're quite open to suggestions of beating someone. Just make sure they don't get pause to think.

| Somehow I dread this scenario. I'm quite sure I'd end up being one of the poor suckers because someone else would have been quicker in seizing leadership.

Well the smart way would be to keep turning to the next strongest person in line, in the end leaving the 'leader' and the weakest other from the group. Of course you can try to feign sufficient weakness. On the other hand pack mentality seems to want to target the weak. So lets just hope we never get in the situation ..

| The problem with this poll is it's self-destroying. My strategy (working VERY well so far, I might add) is to feign sufficient weakness so that I am never targeted. My method, of course, is to get nobody to vote for me in this poll. The strongest people are the ones who get the most votes, but they will be targeted the most when the fight breaks out. So in the end, by having this poll, we have reduced the observable results predicted by this poll to randomness. Hence, the WillyWutang uncertainty principle: [wutang] II: It is impossible to accurately predict the winner of a multi-person brawl, unless you don't tell anyone what your prediction is.

| This sounds like something from the game show "The Weakest Link". For those who may not have seen a version of this show in their own country, it consists of a group of contestants being asked serially a set of questions, which they must answer quickly. Correct answers increase the amount of money the winner wins, wrong answers decrease it (an oversimplification). The questions are asked in a series of rounds. At the end of each round all the contestants vote on which of them should be thrown out of the game before the next round. Those voted off get nothing. Finally only two contestants are left, and the one who performs better in the final round wins all the money. Contestants are faced with a dilemma when voting: if they vote off the worst performers, the final tally that they can win increases in size. But, the competition for that final prize will be harder. If they vote off good performers, they have less money to win, but are more likely to win it. I have only watched a few episodes (generally I find the behavior of both contestants and moderator disgusting, and the questions are not particularly interesting). But I have noticed that the usual strategy is to vote off poor performers in the early rounds, but pick off the best performers in the last few. In every show I watched, the best performers got voted off before the finale. For the knowledgable, it seems the best approach is to try and hide their full intelligence until the end. A tricky proposistion at best.

That show was never the same after the dominatrix host was replaced with that ... guy. I did find it annoying how the hosts keep rubbing in the ratios of money banked to total possible amount of money bankable (which is always far off), like the contestants are total failures. However I did find the little quips between rounds amusing (e.g. "Who is one egg roll short of a poo poo platter? ").

Yeah - I wasn't impressed with him (or his replacement) on "Junkyard Wars" either. Really, I liked the Brit there, but they decided for no good reason that the American version should have an American host. But we don't seem to have the knack that British do for making rubbish interesting! As for Ann Richards - well, different strokes. I didn't care for her either.

Ya, she was even a little too abrasive for the bedroom if you ask me. And that new guy they put on-it's no wonder I never see the show anymore.
