BBC Micro Game "Martello Tower"

Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I was on here...

I am in need of help... I have been playing that old BBC Micro game Martello Tower recently (it was made by Anita Straker, for Derby Educational Software Centre, 1986) and I can't seem to get anywhere..

It's a text based adventure... "north", "open gate", etc... periodically though, guards in triangular hats appear with a number on the hat... you have to enter a number, but if it isn't the number they are looking for, they march you back to the start of the game... for example, it says "A guard with a triangular hat with the number 4 on it appears".. and then you must enter a number (three digits is the maximum..)

So, does anyone have any ideas what numbers the guards want to hear?

Welcome back man !! Its been quite some time since we last heard from you.

About the game, any clues on the initial answers that you gave ? For example, a guard with a triangular hat with number 4 may have an answer of 34, 43, 340, 430, or even 3 or 4. So, any clues ?

Can anyone please tell me where I can get hold of a copy of Martello Tower that will run on Windows XP? I am a maths teacher and I think my class will love this game.

I've not tried them myself, but a quick "google" and it seems that you can obtain emulators from here:
http://bbc.nvg.org/emulators.php3

And you can download the game "Martello Towers" (and others) from here:
http://bbc.nvg.org/dir.php3?dir=sw/educational

As a teenager I was the proud owner of a BBC Micro (paid for out of my triple paper round). So I'll definitely take a look at these myself over the weekend.

I've still got this old BBC game running on XP.However I can't suss out what to do with the Gunpowder, can't light gunpowder or use or get or examine.the "metal" needs to be taken to a blacksmith and made into a key. the candle used down "the dimly lit passage" just want to complete this game.I've even made a map! I seem t o recall there being a gardener with 9 trees and a grid 5 x 5 but where is that? and an intricate pattern? where is that? obviously haven't got there yet.(this was 1985 folks!) gonna put my mail here if it helps anyone. ady.crocker1@ntlworld.com how/what do you do with the specs or glovesHuh!?!

- "DRY TEARS"
- get metal
- go back to the crying woman

sorry couldn't work out how to add image,

Slight correction to your post - you have to "cut metal" not "cut key"

I can't believe how close I had got !!
