Title: Re: HELP WITH A ALBERT EINSTEIN RIDDLE Post by Icarus on Aug 6th, 2005, 8:54am This puzzle was long ago (and falsely, if I recall) attributed to Albert Einstein. It is probably the best-known example of a Gaussian Elimination puzzle (don't ask me why they are called that - I don't know), but despite the grandiose claim in the first post, it is far from the hardest. A friend of mine used to subscribe to Tough Puzzles (http://www.puzzler.co.uk/) in the 1980s, and it had three or four each month (in addition to puzzles of other types), all of which were more convoluted than this one. |
