Title: minesweeper
Post by Noke Lieu on Jan 18th, 2007, 4:08pm
I used to know a girl whose supreme talent would probably have been her proficiency at minesweeper.  It turned out that it wasn't so much figuring anything out, but more pavlovian response to previously figured encountered combinations.

I wonder how well she'd do here? Tessellation minesweeper (http://www.novelgames.com/qualityflashgames/game.php?id=3)

Oh- I stumbled across it (via wikipedia!) whilst writing teachers notes on tessellation. Any favourite facts/insights from you guys?
(Probably not going to mention hyperbolic tess- although I find it beautifully... odd)

(oh, and ther was this too http://www.novelgames.com/flashgames/game.php?id=50)

Didn't register for the Minesweeper game, but that 2nd game gets somewhat vicious fairly quickly - not a very nice trick to play on a brain!

Yes.  It conditions you to react one way, and then makes you fight against what you learned.

Thanks to the warnings here, I had little trouble with the second game.

I'm a little dubious of the minesweeper - the rules for determining neighbours seem a little too unpredictable on some of the boards...

My preferred variant Minesweeper (so far) is: Mines-Perfect (http://www.czeppi.de/english/index.html) which has a (smaller) variety of boards, and a couple of "cheating" features - if you guess a square unnecessarily you're automatically wrong; if you have to guess, then you're automatically right... The 3D board is particularly vicious...

Ah, the 3D board just takes getting used to - the joys of mis-spent student days... ::)

Seriously, I was getting pretty good completion rates for the 3D boards, they're perfectly possible.

Wow!  That second game was pretty vicious.  I got 153739. :(
