Title: April Fools?

This (http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=4543)has to be a hoax. We should find out in a few days.

Yep, the purported emails give it away.  While both email and CompuServe did exist in some form in 1978, DNS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System) wasn't in use until 1983, the .com TLD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.com) not until 1985, and CompuServe's email system was internal-only until 1989 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compuserve#History), so there's no way anyone would have had an "@compuserve.com" email address in 1978, 1980, 1984, or likely even 1985.  Additionally, it would appear (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compuserve#User_IDs_and_e-mail_addresses) that 61713,1244 was never a valid Compuserve ID.  Definitely a hoax.

I just found an interesting site http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/aprilfool/ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBGIQ7ZuuiU).  All sorts of hoaxes are mentioned on the site, this url links to the top 100 april fools hoaxes. Although I suppose that much was clear from the url.

If you hadn't noticed the mismatch between link and label, try copying the url. It's really quite an interesting, honestly. But how could I pass up rickrolling someone.

My reasons are more chess-based. If the emails are genuine then Fischer was extremely prescient and had a hidden hand in several famous world title matches!

A friend of mine is a grade 8 teacher who always plans an April Fool's Day hoax.

This year, her grade 8's had buddy day with the grade 2's for the morning. They played a hat game, where there was plenty of sharing of hats. As the grade 8's were leaving the grade 2 classroom to go back to their own classroom,
she hands out the head lice notices.  :o
