Title: I Care
Post by JiNbOtAk on Mar 17th, 2011, 12:17am
I received the following in my email this morning :

Quote:
JUST TO REMIND YOU TO BE MORE CAREFUL

1. Answer the phone by the LEFT ear.

2. Do not drink coffee TWICE a day

3. Do not take pills with COOL water

4. Do not have HUGE meals after 5pm

5. Reduce the amount of TEA you consume

6. Reduce the amount of OILY food you consume.

7. Drink more WATER in the morning, less at night.

8. Keep your distance from hand phone CHARGERS.

9. Do not use headphones/earphone for LONG period of time.

10. Best sleeping time is from 10pm at night to 6am in the morning.

11. Do not lie down immediately after taking medicine before sleeping.

12. When battery is down to the LAST grid/bar, do not answer the phone as the radiation is 1000 times.

Note : Emphasis are not mine.

Does anyone have any idea on the advice given ? Some of them seemed a bit bizarre, don't you think ?

1. Answer the phone by the LEFT ear.
The left ear connects mostly to the right brain.  But is is the left brain that is supposed to be specialized in language.  Maybe it is supposed to help activate both sides of the brain and not just one?  I wonder if the difference is measurable.

2. Do not drink coffee TWICE a day
That is certainly not enough!

3. Do not take pills with COOL water
Warm water is certainly more comfortable.  On the pharma or medical side, no idea.

4. Do not have HUGE meals after 5pm
I agree.  Do not have HUGE meals at all.

5. Reduce the amount of TEA you consume
Or at least, don't think tea is better than coffee on the nerves.

6. Reduce the amount of OILY food you consume.
Agree.

7. Drink more WATER in the morning, less at night.
No idea.  Yes if you don't want to get up to pee at night.

8. Keep your distance from hand phone CHARGERS.
I'd be more concerned about the hand phone itself.  Besides, all chargers produce the same 60Hz electromagnetic fields, the same as any electronic equipment.  I don't see any danger specific to phone chargers.

9. Do not use headphones/earphone for LONG period of time.
The problem would be how loud you set the volume.
See also #12.

10. Best sleeping time is from 10pm at night to 6am in the morning.
That would be in the absence of artificial light.

11. Do not lie down immediately after taking medicine before sleeping.
No idea.  But lying down and taking medicine is usually correlated...

12. When battery is down to the LAST grid/bar, do not answer the phone as the radiation is 1000 times.
Agree.  The signal strength adjusts to the quality of the link.  The phone will boost its emission if the base station is far or obstructed.
In that case, it would make sense to use a head sets.

13.  Do not follow the advice of people on the internet  ::)

I couldn't reduce the amount of tea I consume if I wanted to. I'd have to figure out how to pee tea.
(And even then, production is not negative consumption.)

I always wanted to have a job description that was just one line: "Converts coffee to urine".

Why?  Do you happen to have good references in that direction?  ;D

;)

Btw what happened to the traffic on this board.... There is hardly any people posting. Has Icarus ever come back after his abrupt departure a cuople of years back?

hey, denis.

didn't notice icarus drop back- at least not using that name.

It's hard to put a finger on the traffic, but the forum has been dwindling over the past while, chiefly because OCF went bananas for a while- there was no forum for about 9 months (or so it seemed) and when it was around it was pretty unstable. I guess folk wandered off... If you want you can check out the OCF blog... http://ocfblog.blogspot.com/

FWIW, I've been totally swamped at work to play much, but I've been missing it. I've got a couple of little questions brewing, but they're not particularly tricky...

oh, and tea is good. I reckon I drink more tea than coffee.

14. Don't drink instant 'coffee'.
Coffee's a luxurious, magical item that should be savoured. Instant coffee is neither instant, nor coffee.
Try to get your coffee from places with sustainable farming practices, and your local roasting house, if you have one. Mine's 1 block away from my office.

You have a point there denis, there are less people posting, although the number of user had increased. I guess the regulars are starting to face the real life reality, and the forum is had became less than a vital part of our life (Can't believe I actually admit to that)

One of the reason could be that the direction of the puzzles, during its inception, there is an equal mix of all kinds of puzzle, nowadays, most of the puzzles are math-based. Not that it's a bad thing, but it's kinda hard to post when you don't speak the language.  :-/

As for Icarus,nope..haven't seen him around. Based on little that I know of him, don't think he'd ever came back.

Curious about the last one, but it's not passing the sniff test.

On the subject of mobile phones:

If you use your mobile phone much, and you're worried about the radiation, you want to live closer to a phone tower - the tower is outputting a powerful enough signal to be usable at extreme range, true, but unless you're standing with your ear against the transmitter, you'll be getting a rather lower dose than from the portable transmitter pressed against your skull - if you're at extreme range, then the hand unit is also putting out a signal strong enough to be usable at that distance, but doing so directly into your ear, while at close range, the handset can use a much weaker signal...
