Title: Spammers on this forum Post by GoBears2013 on Feb 17th, 2012, 12:46pm Hey, I recently started posting on this forum and noticed that spammers could easily post here. What they usually do is they register, make a few unrelated posts like "good post" or "lol" and then post in either ads or hyperlinks to their spam sites, like a site about debt settlement will have a link as such on that term. There isn't much spam here and making all of the links nofollow will punish the forum on Google search results so that's not really an option, but maybe you guys could increase the minimum post requirement before allowing people to start threads? Or would that just turn off new users? // removed link. -- towr |

Title: Re: Spammers on this forum Post by towr on Feb 17th, 2012, 2:15pm It might be an option to make links nofollow for users under a certain post limit. Limiting people from starting threads is probably not a good idea, because that would mean people can't post new puzzles and riddles. And it wouldn't stop spammers from posting in threads (that's what they mostly do anyway). There are a few anti-spam measures, but the last line of defense is always us moderators. I do have to wonder though, since you posted such an unnecessarily spammy link whether you're a clever spammer or not. ::) |
