number puzzle (driving me mental)

add the numbers:
numbers on a phone keypad
legs on eight dogs
number of wheels on three taxis.
Ive sent myself a bit mad tryin to figure this one out. the clue given was to add all the numbers including the backward six in taXIS and the one in phONE so do they want the one in legs ON Eight. I thought i was being clever by answering each question and adding the answer til i got a single digit then adding the hidden numbers in the question to the answer, i got 246, this was wrong so is anyone who thinks its 2, 6, or 89 by the looks of it the answer will be in the thousands, a similar puzzle was revealed recently but they didn't tell me the formular to work it out,
heres a revealed puzzle......
the answer is 6346
add the numbers:
pounds in two twenty pound notes
players in six tennis matches
numbers on two dice.
if you can figure out how they got that answer you can put me out my misery and help with the other one!! HELP
