Counting Rods

I am a very rich business man selling iron rods.
The bars are of standard crossections X , Y & Z and fixed length L.
Bundles of these rods are made for transit.

Problem : How to count the number of rods in a bundle?

Welcome to the real world : Due to weight tolerance (a permissible limit that the weight per unit length is allowed to vary) estimates based on (bundle weight)/(weight of one rod) vary by a factor of +/-F. I am suffering losses due to this.

Since I am very rich, you can suggest me any method/innovation/machine concept for counting the rods. The only constraint is, it should be portable enough for the bundle needs to the counted at the factory and after delivery at the customer's location too.

I think manual counting is good if the quantity is limited, but if its in bulk then an automated solution is must. but cannot find anything best in this situation not even special machines that I know..  Sad

start selling per kilo not per rod Grin

you can also try weigh in parts that don't exceed W^2/2F
where W is weight of one rod and F is varying factor, then for each part you can tell for sure number of rods just dividing and rounding the result
