Title: Sam is serious? Whatever.
Post by Iceman on Nov 21st, 2007, 8:24am
Hello again. It's been a short time.  ;D Heh, I'm considering about buying the original Serious Sam 2, and I was wandering, whether someone here played it, as well as the 1st sequel? So, opinion or two, is it a good game for you and me! Btw, I always forget how powerful my PC really is. Is there some window, somewhere, so I reacquaint myself with RAM, gigathis, gigathat, all that, to see if I can play the darn game in the 1st place? I use my computer, but I know little about it, much to my everlasting :-[ shame. I usually just click, really. ::)

It depends on your taste of games/story lines/ etc... I usually check these two before I decide on a game!!

As far as computer jargon is concerned, google is probably your best bet. I remember seeing some page that went into details of each things but I don't remember where I saw it.

Right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties" from the menu (it's the last item).  The bottom half of the screen that comes up should describe your computer.

Well all right. Looks good.

Good tip.

This is probably why I can't solve Iceman's riddle. I misunderstood the question!!  :-[ I thought Iceman wanted to know about computer peripherals!!

So to follow up:

1) Use SMQ's technique to find out what your PC has
2) Read on game website or the review sites to see their "minimum" requirements. Always get more than minimum if you want a good gaming experience (of course).
3) If you have lots of money update to the best and latest gaming rig!!  :P

Haven't tried Serious Sam 2, but the first was kinda fun. Personally, as far as games are concerned, if you like the first part, the sequel would be better. ( as opposed to movies, sequels are mostly pale echoes of the first one )

There's a lot you should look into in terms of your peripherals, but for gaming, the critical ones are your RAM ( from SMQ's tip ), your processor's speed ( same ) your graphic card ( you can get this info from the device manager ), and to a certain extent, your disk space. ( shouldn't be a problem, unless your storing like a gajilion mp3s )

Since you're getting Serious Sam 2, do tell us how it goes !!

My PC is just fine, but I have Radeon 9250, which is certainly not a special graphic card. So perhaps I can tell you right now how it goes, even if I download the latest drivers for the card? Well, I guess I'll give it a shot.  ::)

I cannot download the latest drivers for RADEON 9250 series (adapter type). I have found one site, but it won't download when I try the RADEON 9250 link. As for other sites, I haven't had much luck. Oh well.  :'(

Well, if you like it crazy, fast and pretty tough at normal level, as there are lower and higher levels to choose from at the beginning, then this is definitely the game for you. ::)

Actually, now I really like the game! The only thing that might look not good enough is the speed of Sam. It seems to me that he is walking all the time, instead of running. Then again, I could not find the run button, so I suppose there isn't any, thus he is moving like he should.

I just finished the game at normal level, which although normal, seemed like abnormal, talking about a tough game to finish. But it sure was a lot of fun! I wonder if there is a similarly good game out there. Sure, I remember MDK, I really thought it was great, but after Serious Sam 2, I'm not sure about that anymore. Anyway, I sure recommend it. Although, my hands are a bit stiff, my eyes hurt because of 10 hours exposure to monitor in period of three consecutive days. But, it was worth it, as it sure is a great no brainer, as they call this type of games. At first, it didn't look that great to me, and I even considered quitting, but this was just a beginner's silly suspicious and lazy glimpse, really. Once I got the hang of it, which includes altering the default weapon buttons, so I can play faster reducing pausing a lot, it sure was awesome. I thought that I am a sophisticated player now, talking about RPG, strategies, adventure games, but I realized that, because of this game, that I'm, 1stly, a dumb shooter. Later.  8)

If you're into first-person shooters, here's three pretty good games:

1) Halo
2) Halo 2
3) Halo 3

If you're into real-time strategies, here's three pretty good games:

1) Age of Empires
2) Age of Empires II
3) Age of Empires II

You may as well throw in Starcraft, simply because it's been around so long and it's still popular. In South Korea there are actually TV stations that show Starcraft games, and people actually make big money playing it (they get endorsements, etc.).

If you want some good RPG's, here are some ideas:

the Legend of Zelda series
Final Fantasy series
WoW

No matter what, DON'T PLAY RUNESCAPE.

What about WarCraft? It's almost as good as StarCraft.

That's why it is called "Run, Escape!".

Actually, RuneScape combines the words "Rune", which is used in the game for magic, and "Scape", which, though I'm not sure, probably talks about the geography of the game.

I somewhat suspect Grimbal actually knew that..

I kind of suspect towr is right...

Yes, I tried it, just the tutorial and didn't get hooked.

It looks like a games where you spend a lot of time, and don't really know what it is, you are supposed to do there.

I made the mistake of playing it. After 15 minutes, I was hooked. In the end, I had to give away my account to get un-hooked. I had so much stuff on the account, and I wasted so many hours on it...   :-[ :P

Well, AOE 2 is the chief reason why me and my housemates nearly flunked our final year in uni, we were too busy playing it !! Highly addictive..

Final Fantasy is the RPG to look out for. So far ( since FF8 anyway ) it has yet to dissapoint me.

And Icey, if you're into hack and slash games with all the gory details ( I know I am ), try God of War ( though I think that's only available for PS2 console. )
