Title: Getting Logged Out Too Soon
Post by MathsForFun on Jul 12th, 2009, 5:19am
Every couple of days, I am having to log in again. On each occasion, I set "stay logged in for" to 9999, and I always select the "stay logged in" option.

Is there anything I can do to stay logged in for a week or more, please?

Does your IP number change? Because if that happens, you need to log in again.

(You can check your ip on e.g. http://www.whatismyip.com/ )

Yes - I believe it is assigned dynamically by my ISP. This is inconvenient. The normal method of staying logged in is to use a cookie. I would have thought that in the case of a puzzle forum, this security level would be sufficient.

It does use a cookie, but it seems to use the IP in computing the hash it puts into that cookie. But I agree it's inconvenient, I have the same problem at university, because unless I get the same computer I need to log in again.

I don't know if it's an installation/configuration option or a fixed 'feature' of the forum software. There might not have been a choice.
