Dogs in court

Two dogs, a couple of hammers and a pair of telephones were taken to court yesterday. They lost, but didn't receive a fine or go to jail. Why?

Were they taken to a tennis court, and lost a game of tennis.  I don't think hammers would have a good game.

Could be a basketball court too, or...

Someone with very wierd habits went to court someone he had a crush on, but he was too wierd so was rejected.

I could be way off here, but...

"couple of dogs" - I'm thinking a pair of pets - parapets
"couple of hammers" - Huh
"couple of telephones" - pair of cell (phones) - parasails

Heck, if it included two physicians, it'd be nothing but a paradox!

What else uses a "court" to play?

Volleyball...
Cricket...
racketball...

Hmm... maybe along the lines of chess.  I don't know how that would fit though except parapets could possibly be rooks plus there's two of most of them, for one side at least.

My first impression was polo, but it'd be kind of hard to ride dogs around.

What about a Great Dane? They are pretty fast. Hm, and slim. It would be difficult to stay on them while they're running around...   Tongue

evergreena3 is right... (but only by casting a word net and somehow snagging my hapless, gentle fish...  : Wink  )

It's volleyball... the hammers are hitters, the dogs are setters and the telephones are receivers...
