Toilet Water

A true story  Embarassed :

Yesterday I had the day off of work.  I had spent the previous evening drinking with friends, and  planned to spend most of the day relaxing at home.

Shortly after waking, I was doing something that I had not at all intended.  I  found myself sitting on the couch drinking water that was taken from the toilet.

I was alone, not thirsty, and did this willingly and knowingly.

Why?

While not thirsty, as such, you were dehydrated from the previous evening's libations and knew you needed to drink water to lessen the...effects, however upon waking you discovered you had no running water.

It seems that you accidently dropped something in the toilet (something that you value, or need). Some examples are:
Medicine (the last dose, or very expensive)
Drugs (something powdery, like coke or meth)

When the drugs hit the water, they formed a little cloud or maybe floated on the top. Quickly, you grabbed a cup and scooped them out of the bowl. The powder had not touched the sides of the bowl, you rationalized. So, rather than try to dry the powder and return it to its original state, you just drank the water along with the substance.

It could be in a space station, where water gets recycled.

PS:  Oops... it's a real story?  Then it is probably not that.  Unless you are in a space station.  These people must have internet after all.

This was not a result of a dare, and I don't take medication.

SMQ's answer was very close.
However I was not dehydrated or suffering from any hangover symptoms.  I had consumed a liter of water before going to sleep to avoid this.
It is true that apon waking I found that I had no running water.

So,
hidden:
you had no running water.
You needed water for something so you took it from the toilet tank, which is actually clean water. You scooped it our in a small cup, trying to take only as much as you needed.

You carried the water into the living room and
hidden:
used it, but you actually had too much water. There was a little bit left in the cup. You needed to get rid of the water before you could put something else into the cup, so instead of getting up and dumping the water in the sink,
you just drank it.

I did take water from the toilet tank because it is cleaner than water in the bowl, but I took it with the intention of drinking it, not for any other purpose.

hint:  Before drinking the water I processed it.

Yes SMQ, that's it.

The water department was working on the lines in my neighborhood, and I had polished off all my bottled water the night before.  Unwilling to break my morning routine, I filled my coffee machine with the only source of water I had.  I'm ashamed to say it made a fine cup of coffee.
