There is an open window, too high for either of them to reach, even if they stand on each others' shoulders. The door that holds them in is locked with a padlock, and can't be broken. There is no way they can squeeze through the bars. Inside their cell, they have a piece of paper, a pencil, a phone book, and a local newspaper. The key to the lock is safely hidden away in an office in the building - there is no way they can get this key. They escape from the jail cell at 3 AM in the morning, without any of the other prisoners knowing.   How do they escape?   This is a riddle that someone posted on my site. Credits to Peanuts.
