Stephen lives in Canada. Sometimes he wanders around aimlessly. He comes across a lone maple tree he didn't see before. The tree is fully grown, big and undamaged. He's looking at its numerous leaves. Within 15 s he knows how many leaves the tree has. How did he know?

There are only 5 leaves on the tree. The rest of the numerous leaves are on the ground. It's autumn (which explains why Stephen took 15s to count 5 leaves).
