To get away with murder

An intelligent man killed his wife at home with no consequences. A chainsaw was the weapon that was used in the murder. After he killed her he called an ambulance. Why?

It was self defence. She was pointing an RPG-7 at him. Tongue

I like your sense of humor and I understand that sometimes a man must defend himself from his wife alas it wasn’t self-defense.

If it is without consequence, that means she is not dead.  They were playing Duke Nukem.  He called an ambulance because of his tendonitis.

She is dead. Nice try though.

You’re right about one thing. Not everything is as it seems as two facts were omitted.

"After he killed her he called an ambulance. Why?"

He called an ambulance because that makes him look like he desperately tries to save his wife.  If he rolled her in a carpet and dumped her in a river that would make a bad impression on the jury.  And he is intelligent, right?

Nah. JiNbOtAk's self-defense scenario sounds a lot better. No intended answer yet.

His wife was an AI.

She was about to take over the control of the kitchen, the house, the city and the World.

That's not it either. She was the enemy though because she was a woman.

He jumped at her with the chainsaw at the top of the stairs which made her fall down the stairs and break her neck.

Your answer is certainly plausible but in my opinion it is not good enough. Why not just push her down the stairs? Unless of course she is stronger than he is but even though a chainsaw can be very scary there is no guarantee that she would trip. Though you’re definitely on the right track in fact you have partially solved the riddle. Just think of something else other than falling down the stairs.

The murder was carefully thought-out.

The remaining omitted fact concerns his wife. There was something about her.

She is rich and ugly?

And of course, she did something really bad herself so it is OK with the Hays code.

Or maybe

The wife was in the coma and pregnant.  Brain-dead, actually.  She was kept on life support at their home until the birth.

Now the time has come.  Being a highly distinguished obstetrician, the husband got the authorization to do the caesarean section himself.  But he forgot his tools at the hospital.  So he used the tools he found at home.

He is a hero!  He saved the baby.  He called the ambulance because the driver is the father of the baby.

PS:
Or he HAD to do the caesarean in a hurry because there was a power cut.  He had to save at least one life!

Of course, Lt. Columbo ended up asking:  If there was a power cut, how could he use an electrical chainsaw?

I commend your imagination but the truth shall set you free. He did not touch her with the chainsaw.

She was rich though.

The man was chopping down a tree, and the tree fell on his wife.  He called the ambulance so it looked like it was an accident.  I guess because she was insured against accidental death. Also, hopefully the emergency services people would help him remove the tree.  This way he gets rid of two birds with one stone.

I commend your imagination too. However, the murder took place in the living room.

Perhaps then The wife was trying to kill him with the chainsaw?  He successfully defended himself, but was injured so he needed to call an ambulance.

It is hard to believe but this time the wife was innocent.

He wasn’t injured.

Ah, I see that the first guess was actually about self defense too.  My bad!

Here's another guess to make up for it:
The wife was terminally ill and wanted to die, however she could not physically kill herself.  So the Husband killed her out of mercy.
Furthermore:
To make it look like an accident, the notoriously absent-minded husband unplugged her life support machine to plug in his chainsaw.

The ambulance was called just to make it seem less suspicious.

The wife was ill, yes, but your explanation is unsatisfactory. A type of illness is important.

He was drunk when his wife throwed down the gauntlet to him.  It was his choice of a weapon.

Do I really need to answer that?
