- Alternative meanings of "U.S." and/or "D.C."
- Alternative meanings of "the Sun", such as the tabloid
- Even without any of the above trickery, the US includes several territories that are sufficiently many time zones away from DC; see this link

He could be in Hawaii (6 hours behind), or Alaska (4 hours behind, and in summer the sun never sets in part of it.)
