It all looks as though it was an accident. Though not to Columbo, considering something that caught his eye inside the safe.   And what was inside the safe, aside for the dead body? Nothing but little statues placed on a long wall shelf right across the many metal boxes, some of which hold valuable possessions including money. But, these are not ordinary figurines, rather made out of pure gold (24k) and they represent famous figures.
