Title: 4 murder mystery games
Post by BenVitale on Jun 15th, 2009, 9:18pm
Murder mystery game #1 :

A rich man was found murdered one morning. His wife immediately called the police. The police questioned the wife and staff and was given these alibis:

- The wife said she was reading a book.
- The cook claimed he was cooking breakfast
- The maid claimed she was getting the mail
- The gardener claimed he was planting seeds.
- The butler claimed he was polishing the silver

After listening to those alibis, the police instantly arrested the murderer. Who did it and how did they know?

The maid. Because it was a Sunday.

The gardener, because it was winter.
Or maybe
The wife, because she was illiterate.

The rich man decided silver was too normal and tacky, and opted for gold silverware. Darn butler, shoulda checked.

Could be anybody
- The wife if the man was poisoned and the book was about poisons.
- The cook if man's breakfast was poisoned
- The maid if the dead man still holds this morning's newspaper, delivered by mail
- The gardener if the man was killed by having coconuts planted into his chest (ok, that one is a bit far-fetched)
- The butler if the man was hit with heavy silver chandelier but there is absolutely no trace of blood on the chandelier in question.

Yes, it could be anybody.  Each of you have provided valid reasons.

Murder mystery game #2 :

A wealthy man lives alone in a small cottage.
Being partially handicapped he had everything delivered to his cottage. The mailman was delivering a letter one Thursday when he noticed that the front door was ajar. Through the opening he could see the man's body lying in a pool of dried blood. When the police arrived they surveyed the scene. On the porch were two bottles of milk, Monday's newspaper, a catalog, flyers, and unopened mail. The murderer was arrested on that same day.

Who was he and how did the police know?

[hide]The newspaper man?? he killed him on Monday and did not come again to deliver the newspapers.[/hide]

                                           OR

[hide]It could be the milkman too if we consider the folllowing scenario:
The milkman murders him on Monday. Comes on Tuesday and Wednesday to deliver milk and takes the newspapers of these two days with him, so that the police suspect the newspaper man.[/hide]

Correct.
The absence of Tuesday's and Wednesday's papers indicated that the delivery person knew there was no one there to read it.

Murder mystery game #3 :

The dead body of Adrian was found at the bottom of a cliff. He was clothed in heavy hiking boots, mitts, several light jackets, and thick woolen trousers.

James G. recounted:
I returned to camp early to make dinner for the hunting party when I saw Adrian and Lulo arguing. They had been dating for several years and frequently held heated discussions. I didn't want to intrude, so I hid behind a tree. Suddenly Adrian picked up a rock and delivered a fatal blow to Lulo's head. Just then Adrian saw me. He was so startled he turned and ran. He obviously forgot about the cliff and fell to his death.

When the lab checked the rock that supposedly killed Lulo, it found Adrian's fingerprints on it.
The police immediately ordered the arrest of James G.
Why?

From Adrian's dress, it is quite clear that it was winter. So he must have wore gloves. And in that case, his fingerprints wont come on the rock.  ???

You're right : Adrian's body was found wearing mitts. So it would not have been possible for his fingerprints to be on that rock ... unless someone put them there. So James is our number 1 suspect.

Murder mystery game #4 :

A man was shot to death while in his car. There was no powder marks on his clothing, which indicated that the gunman was outside the car. However, all the windows were up and the doors locked. After a close inspection was made, the only bullet-holes discovered were on the man's body. How was he murdered?

He killed himself with an air gun

Electronic keys, so you can lock the doors after closing them from the outside.

Or simply: the keys were not inside the car.  It could even be the man was in the trunk and choked to death there.  The bullet hole is an old wound.
