David orders a beer for himself at a pub. Arnold, who wasn't coerced and under no circumstances does he pay other people's bills, not even to his next-of-kin, pays the bill. Why?

David orders a beer at a pub. Arnold, who wasn’t coerced and is very adamant about not paying other people’s bills, not even to his next-of-kin, pays the bill. Why?

It's not April Fools' Day, but because of your fine answer, it feels as if though it is. In my version of the riddle, [hide]David orders the drink for himself.[/hide]

Arnold is very Scottish, but as a regular payer of his debts, it is gallantry he lacks and he doesn't pay his debts through the beverages at the pub.

Only the original version was considered thus far. From now on one should consider only the revised version.
