Title: Telephone
Post by alien2 on Sep 18th, 2016, 10:35am
An average man has 20/20 vision. He is in his living room which is sufficiently illuminated by daylight. He aims a hand lamp at a telephone keypad and turns the lamp on. Why?

This has happened to me more times than I care to admit.  Although my aim is usually a little off...

Because, like me, he [hide]dropped it down the back of the couch; or into a similar dark recess.[/hide]

There is a catch, of course, but he deliberately turned it on.

Oh, I was referring to the phone, rather than the torch.  Apologies for the ambiguity!
[hide]He turned the torch on to see where he had dropped the phone.[/hide]

No. The phone is sufficiently illuminated by the Sun.

No need to apologize. I am dumb.

He is [hide]a detective[/hide] and he is [hide]using his hand-lamp to find clues.[/hide]

Title: Re: Telephone

That's not the reason he is using the lamp.

The [hide]ink on the keypad has worn off[/hide], and so he needs to [hide]use the reflection from the lamp light to see the small indentations[/hide].

Nope. It's a new phone.

At the moment you're far away from the solution.

[hide]To make his phone think it is even brighter, so it will reduce the backlighting on the screen.[/hide]

Not the intended answer which is a simple one. It can't be simpler, let me tell you.

Not bad. In my scenario no unmentioned objects have a role.

He is [hide]on a video call, and showing off his new hand lamp.

Of course he wouldn't aim it at the phone's camera, that would just be mean![/hide]

He likes to arouse lamps sexually?

Because , He was a member of this forum, he read this question and thought why would anyone do this?

And after some time in an attempt he  tried doing it to find the answer.  This is why he did this.

Or maybe you forced him to do that !!

Maybe he wanted to see if there is any scratch on the phone which he could not see in sunlight

Nope.

There is a simple explanation.

So he is naked in a bare room with just a hand lamp and a phone keypad?
I fail to see what situation that is.
But that explains why you said "hand lamp" and not "pocket lamp".  It's because he doesn't have a pocket but he has a hand.

Actually, I could've mentioned a few additional objects but that would've been a giveaway.

The answer is soooooooooooooooooooo simple.

Forget about the phone. A fixed phone line is dead. Long live the smartphone! The king is dead too!?

Is it a [hide]bluetooth[/hide] or [hide]infra-red[/hide] hand lamp?

Title: Re: Telephone
Post by alien2 on Oct 31st, 2016, 1:50am
It's a simple lamp, made in technologically advanced China, of course. You're overthinking it. Though best thing to do is to [hide]focus on the lamp. So perhaps you're on the right track.[/hide]

Allow me to ask you something. What[hide] do I look like? Only kidding. So, what do you do with a flashlight? Think of everything that it is you do with it, unless you are some kind of a pervert. We need a decent answer her people.[/hide]

He is using [hide]morse code to communicate with the flashlight.[/hide]

Alternately: [hide]He is testing some batteries to see if they work, using the flashlight since it's easy to see if the batteries are working or not.  He aims it at the phone keypad coincidentally.[/hide]
