Title: Free Whopper?
Post by SWF on Nov 3rd, 2016, 6:43pm
True story:

SWF parked his car in front of a drug store, got out and locked the car. Realizing he forgot something, he unlocked the car and grabbed the Buy One Get One Free Whopper coupon that was on the front seat of the car and went in the drug store. Even though he spent no money, a few minutes later he left the drug store with a sizable bag of chocolate candy-- not what he was planning. What happened?

He bought it to bribe the fat policeman who was about to issue a parking ticket.

PS: Oops... he didn't pay anything.

On the East Coast I am yet to walk into a drug store (CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens) to find a fully loaded hamburgers for sale. So:

- a Burger King joint is right next to the drug store

- deep in thought about Chebyshev polynomials SWF walks into the wrong place

- the other side of the coupon has a promotion for this store - if you have that many store points (which SWF has) - get a free bag of candy

Very good, rloginunix, you got part of it...  The candy was free because I unexpectedly had just enough store points for the bag I was willing to pay for.  However, buying that candy is not why I was there. It was an after thought when realizing Halloween was coming up.

Did I say it was for Burger King Whopper? Whoppers is a kind of chocolate candy too. But, indeed, it was a Burger King Whopper coupon (on both sides) and there was not a Burger King nearby.  What did I use that coupon for?

Turning it into a conical surface inside of which the candy can be carried?

You used the coupon to open closed door of the drug store to steal candy.

You gave the coupon to a trick-or-treater?

On the coupon you scribbled "This is a robery.  Stay calm.  Hand over the candy."

"... or get private derivatives - from both barrels".

Seriously, though. One plausible explanation of why a person (in US) would purposefully walk into a drug store without any intention of spending any money is to fill out a prescription. On such a (first) trip you only submit the paperwork and are told "come back in 2 hours/2 days/2 weeks" ... It is on the second trip when a coin changes hands.

So why would SWF come back to get a seemingly useless (in that store) piece of paper?

My other theory was - to use the coupon's fine print (tiny font) to test prescription contact lenses or glasses. But it doesn't hold any water.

[e]
Outlandish: "Buy One Get One Free Whopper" = BOGOFW in ASCII is 66;79;71;79;70;87 - "over one" distances are Fibonacci numbers: 71-66=5; 79-79=0; |70-71|=1; 87-79=8;
???

I think you're on to something there rloginunix!

SWF didn't come back to get the whopper coupon.  He came back to get the prescription.  He picked up the Whopper coupon instead by mistake.

rloginunix is correct again, except he retracted his guess by saying that theory doesn't hold water.  Could have probably used ingredients label from something in the store, but the tiny print on the coupon is a good vision test.  Also, it was to test non-prescription off-the-rack glasses in drug store.
