Title: Broken Mirror V
Post by alien2 on Nov 10th, 2017, 2:25am
The riddle-maker greets his old friend who came by and tells him to sit in an armchair in the living room. He places a standing mirror on the table and says: “Prove that this mirror is broken w/o moving an inch.“ His friend is puzzled because — the mirror is not broken! or, at least, so it seems. But then, after a few minutes he has an idea and solves the riddle. What was his answer?

I got my MRI result. It appears, although I still feel pretty bad, - - - there is nothing wrong with me. Huh. Well then. Still, hurry up, giddyup, because, I FEEL as if I am still dying here which, according to my mortality, happens to be entirely true. And, doctors could be completely wrong. It wouldn't be first time. So, pretty please, with sugar on top, SOLVE THE RIDDLE. Thanks! (Not for your support.)

Perhaps you are the mirror, and the doctors are not clever enough yet to solve your riddle.

You wouldn't post a riddle that has no solution, right?*

So we can assume a solution exists to the riddle.

If a solution exists, the fact that this mirror is broken is provable.

And if it is provable, it is true.  QED.

* seriously, you wouldn't right?

Of course I wouldn't! Seriously. I believe we just reached an important topic: trust; or lack there of. You doubt my veracity? I ought to belt ya! but, you happen to be - - - Swiss. I myself don't  nurture such inhumane custom yet to some sacred traditions (like Klingons).

Yes! there is a perfectly realistic solution. No special effect, let me tell you.

A hint: An omitted detail, anyone? One will do.

Get on it. We have a riddle to solve people!

The mirror lies destitute on the table; a mere reflection of its former self.  Now nothing more than a cheap prop, serving at the riddlemaker's whim.  It might not be broken in form, but it is definitely broken in spirit.

I commend your imagination. I still await the expected answer.

I STILL AWAIT THE EXPECTED ANSWER !

He tells the riddlemaker that the mirror doesn't show his reflection, and is therefore broken.  He doesn't tell the riddlemaker he is secretly a vampire.

The mirror makes him look old, but he feels young, so the mirror must be broken

Must I say the words? Actually, your answer is extremely witty. Alas, sometimes, humor is just not good enough. After all, women take love very very seriously even though it is an animal thing to do and the most basic superficial instinct. Mayhap same is true for certain riddles.

I would accept your answer and wash your feet:
But I, being an atheist, I dislike Jesus;
But I have spread my riddles under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my riddles.

I modified the riddle just a bit just to include a bit of a hint. That's all. I am more than certain that now the riddle will be solved in no time.

That is quite an ask, given it took the riddle maker's friend at least a few minutes to solve it; and he could see the mirror!

Get on it. Time is wasting. Don't make me call Chronos! For HE is the true Death, camouflaged like a chameleon into - - - time. Ergo, time is but an illusion. Thank You.

A Klingon who kills w/o showing his face has no honor.

Perhaps the friend [hide]shatters the mirror with his voice[/hide].

Actually, there is no need whatsoever to do something like that. See what I mean? Hint, anyone?

Mayhap Batman can assist you?! After all, he can see without eyes. He has beautiful eyes though.

You needn't break the mirror. 'See'?!

If you don't solve this riddle till Christmas I WILL say the answer. I am NOT kidding. When do I?

Do you really want me to say the answer?! Get on it! Dudiobugtron, solve this piece of heat.

Title: Re: Broken Mirror V

It seems like the mirror is broken in a way initially imperceptible to the friend.  But then the friend works out how it is actually broken, without 'moving an inch' - meaning he doesn't change his viewing angle, dislodge the mirror, shine a torch light on it, etc etc...

So this means he has to actually have been able to tell how the mirror is broken all along.  Perhaps then [hide]The reflective surface of the mirror is not broken, but part of the wooden surround is broken in some way - perhaps chipped a little bit so it was hard to notice unless you thought to look for it.[/hide]

Keep thinking along those lines. And remember. There is an omitted detail. [hide]Mirror is broken here (not the way you think though). But, that IS what riddles the hell out of you at the moment.[/hide]

That's it! I will now say the answer. Okay I will not. But, you have 'bout a weak at ur disposal. Think fast. Think 'F' fast.

Btw, I am not Nostradamus but, I predict, that, dudiobugtron will be the one to solve this riddle. So go ahead. Make my day, punk. Not to worry. Instead of .44 Remington Magnum I've but a pen. I mean, but a keyboard.

It says "made for Nasa, project Hubble".
Obviously it wasn't sent to the space telescope, which means it has a defect.  Not visible to the naked eye but unacceptable to an astronomer.  And the fact that it is lying there without any special protection shows it is not fit to be used in a telescope.

The glass is unbroken, but the reflective surface behind it has been removed.  So its actually just a window, not a mirror.

No. Glass IS broken. I cannot say more or else I'd reveal  to much and spoil you a cute riddle. And don't  you forget Klendathu and . . . AN OMITTED DETAIL.

The mirror is supposed to return an identical image of the subject.
But the friend notices that the watch he is wearing on the left hand is on the right hand in the reflection.  And the clock is running counterclockwise.
It is obviously on old mirror that starts to be sloppy on details.

Nice material for a nice fantastic story. Not the answer to this riddle though. Not at all close.
