Post by Vincent_469 on Sep 5th, 2003, 3:54pm
I not sure if I should have posted this here but does anyone have any information regarding to Vampires, and their legends, and how they live and everything. I'm writing a piece on vampires, and fiction on them, and I need as much information as you can get about them. It's really important. Thanks!

Well, the legends might be based (in part) on a disease.
If you read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire#Natural_phenomena_that_propagate_the_belief_in_vampires it mentions porphyria and rabies for example.

The myth is not entirely a myth it is based on the fear people had of being eaten.
It was created by people as a tool for scaremongering people to stay away from other unknown areas and stay safe so they would not leave their town or village.

good tactic to get your kids in the house at night!

Come to think of it, the long polar night might prove attractive to creatures that can't stand the sun. But there's so few people to feed on. (I guess, maybe, one might make do with elves?)

Which is why they sparkle now!

(but what do they do during the even-longer polar day?)

Surely you've noticed Santa's only around in the winter, in the summer I figure he's in the antarctic, where it's dark then.

Wasn't there a man named like Vlad the murderer or something like that, who they think the vampire legends are based on?
