Why is it that when you transport something by car, it's called a shipment, but when you transport something by ship, it's called cargo?   ::)  :)

Probably for the same reason that we park our cars in a driveway and we drive our cars on a parkway ...

or

for the same reason that even though multiple mouses are mice and multiple louses are lice multiple houses aren't hice, multiple spouses aren't spice and multiple blouses aren't blice?

... and multiple radiuses are radii ...

Another strange but true, closer to home.

Don't know what they are called elsewhere in the world but the attached are sold in the US as combination locks.

Well. If the order of the digits/numbers/letters is important, "123" and "321" are different codes, shouldn't these be called permutation locks?

The issue with cargo and shipment is that just because is called cargo doesn't mean it's not also called a shipment and vice versa.

cargo
