Title: WANTED- Urgent boredom relief!
Post by Aurora on Aug 21st, 2007, 5:52am
Anyone know of some decent lateral thinking type games or quizzes on the net?

This British weather (It's supposed to be August, but it looks more like March outside and we've even got the heating on! :( )has so far meant a good deal of time sat in front of the computer trying to find something to do and I thought that you might be of some help. ;D

If you could post any links that'd be great.

What do you mean "If nothing works"? The links seem to be fine (perfect for a day like today), and everything else is okay.

I believe it was intended as "if you're still bored."

Here's what I do when I am bored!!

If you use firefox there is a addon called "stumble upon" which is pretty good given on a click it takes you to a random page of your interest.. i have found some interesting pages that way..

I watch videos online... however I get bored of that pretty soon

I go through previous riddles on this forum ;)

If you are good with programming you can try projecteuler.net . THe forum equivalent of that is
http://mathschallenge.net/forum/

You can play "Silent Hill" .. i believe it has some puzzles in the game ;) ...

If everything else fails read a book!!!

Trouble is, I'm already averaging about 5 Agatha Christie's a week!

It'd be good if you could suggest any websites with similar sorts of problems as the 'What happened' section.

Crossing your eyes, overlaying the images, works pretty well to find differences.

That took 10 seconds literally an figuratively. Still  those are fun though.

Later ones get more difficult.

And after several seconds of trying with one of them, I realized that it said 'Mirrored' at the top. :-[

Typical, just as I thought that I should keep the suggestions for a rainy day, it's started blowing a gale and tipping it down. Will I ever get any sunshine??? >:(

Why not pick up a new hobby ? Try cooking for example. Nothing like working up on a recipe to spruce up your day.

Here's (http://www.cookingforengineers.com) a nice website I frequent.

JiNbOtAk, your suggestion would be great if it wasn't that I already bake a reasonable amount and I would do more if my mum wouldn't get so annoyed about me making my own birthday cake. >:(

In the meantime, the weather is finally good so I'm not stuck inside any longer and there is plenty to do. 8)

I'll trade the rain with you any day. WE NEED RAIN!!! :'(

Title: Re: WANTED- Urgent boredom relief!
Post by Aurora on Aug 23rd, 2007, 11:47pm
I live at the bottom of a slope and the last time we had rain like this, it was 18cm high, I had to take off my shoes and socks and wade to the front door and the manhole looked like a fountain. Old neighbours of ours were storing their belongs in her Mum's garage, as their house had been struck by lightning only a week before; the garage was flooded and the few belongs that they had remaining were ruined.

I know the some places get it a lot worse, but you can see why I'm moaning! :(

Moaning? I'd be crying with joy for that kind of rain. We've been in drought for the past 10 years. We struggle to get past 180mm and your complaining? Please floods are no problem, droughts are. Floods you have back up solutions and you no what to do, drought you don't. :'(

Honour? We DEMORALISED you in your national sport.  ;D

That's embarrassing, at least in our national sport, we can't lose, we have no one to compete against. 8)

Did you mean cricket? Australia is not that dominating as it used to be.. England has been struggling for a while now.. and darn Tendulkar missed his century once again  :(

Anyways your signature just got my attention. Just to be clear Bill Gates never said what you have written down. You can search Google for that..

As far as lateral thinking... hmm maybe you can search for some online e-books?? wowio.com has a few.. project guttenberg? any more?

Our national sports are football and Aussie baiting.

Wow, my dad's sources are way out then, for England and cricket. Which is surprising, he's a huge fan. I did google quotes, looking for Einstein's infinty saying, but then that popped up on the screen, so I took it. I'm not confirming it, but it looked interesting.

Going to research now, and we did demoralise England in their national sport, at the World Cup, we got to the round of 16, lost because of a dodgy ref, and Italy went on to win the competition. Assuming we would have beaten them, we were up a man, we would have sailed through into the final, and won.  :P

I mean England you expect to under perform, but the Aussies showed what they are made of, the best sporting nation in the world. For population to success, Australia dominates overall, especially the Poms. Look at the Commoncrap Games. All countries are tied to England, yet little Australia with just over 20 million in population, DOMINATED. I went to the games, I should know.

P.S. Google has hits for "bill gates 640 kilobytes" when all typed as one, now to look in and see if they are all the same.

Quote:
Bill Gates's is falsely attributed again and again this quotation: „640 KB (main memories) should actually be enough for everyone. “, see in addition also this entry in Wikiquote
Guess you are correct. I'll change it then.

Few years back there was a post on an online riddle, where you had to go into a house (click on the door-handle) and so on. Does someone remember the link?

There was another one (or was it the same?), where the level1 had a URL level.html and to go to level2 you had to change the URL. Going higher again was too difficult. Anybody remembering that one?

Thanks,

Yes, thanks I found it.

I got again stuck at the woodoo. I do not know what to do with it.
But it seems every year I can make a step higher. I hope I will live long enough...

Exactly what do you represent "If absolutely nothing works"? The hyperlinks appear to feel fine (ideal for a day like today), and additionally everything otherwise is okay.
