Ship lying in a well-known sea

Lying in a well-known sea there is a ship that is worth many millions of pounds. The valuable ship completed its long haul to the destination but it was not able to make the return journey. So the ship languishes there to this day, and although everyone knows where it is, no attempt has yet been made to recover it.
What is the name of this ship?

I'm not sure about a name, but I'm thinking it might be a space ship that has landed in a sea on the moon or a planet

Well, I don't really know, but I don't think that the ship would be "lying in a well-known sea" in this case. Judging from what the broad public knows about seas.

What fascinates me is the claim that "everyone knows where it is".  Undecided

Well: The dark spots on the moon are called seas, so it could be one of the landing shuttles that landed in one of them. Apollo 11 landed in the Sea of Tranquility, so it could be that.

Cauthon,
I know that - well, apart from which sea exactly.
It is with this particular (and maybe intended) solution in mind that I asked whether this sea is "well-known".

The ship is: The "Eagle" lunar spaceship module which lies in the Sea of Tranquillity on the moon. And the sea is pretty popular considering the name that was given to it.

Yes, it is.  Smiley

I wasn't doubting whether your (and bobcat's) answer was the intended one.
