Hmmmmm : I am not sure what office you work in or where you live, but is the type of laser that is in a printer or other household/office devices one that gets particular hot, or hot at all? : Despite that question ill bet that you have the intended answer

I wondered the same thing Scribbles, I suppose you can use it with multiple meanings for the one answer.

| Try printing a dozen black pages, then feel the last page. It's pretty darn hot, if you didn't burn out your printer in the process

I would also go with printer/photocopier. For microwave/cpu, why can't one look at it?

Microwaves heat water. Your eyes are mainly water. The window of a microwave has a screen embedded that intercepts most of the microwaves, enough to be reasonably safe. But it does not not intercept all of the energy. If you stand for long periods peering into your microwave from close range, it is possible that enough energy will penetrate to heat your eyes enough to cause damage. The possibility is small, but to be on the safe side, don't just sit/stand there staring into your microwave! (Or, if you do, tape it and send the tape to me so I can laugh at your exploding eyeballs! )

| Really? I though the wavelength of microwaves was too large for any of those photons to get through. Any numbers on how much an average microwave would let pass?

In order for it to prevent all microwaves from escaping, the potential energy wall of the screen would have to be infinitely high. Such a wall does not exist in the real world. The wall offered by the screen is in fact thinner and lower than that offered by the metal sides of the microwave.
