Metric/imperial/time/space confusion

I'm measured in meters or feet: to me
They give my form and strength,
But feet per meter aren't always three
& you still won't know my length.

To work that out, my situation
Is found in time or space -
But length, to your exasperation
Depends on location or pace.

Like Heisenberg's uncertainty
You can't know both or try -
This is enough to discover me
So tell me: what am I?

This is my first posted puzzle, so be gentle.  Smiley I don't think it's too tough: more worried that someone will get it immediately. But I like the idea of it...

I agree, the first line is a bit of a give-away for those who have learned the terms, but still a nicely constructed riddle. Especially the way the answer is also what it is - a poem!

Archae, you've got it. And in an impressively short time! I shall clearly have to be less generous in future  Smiley

Thanks Three Hands. I was trying to think of one of those riddles where the answer stares you in the face and was happy nobody had thought of this yet.

How would you go about making this riddle harder while keeping the same ideas?

If you remove the "feet" from the riddle, while keeping the statement about a lack of clearly defined length, it would probably make it harder to close in on. However, you'd then probably need to include something eliminating "beats" from the solution, since meter + beats is used in musical measurement.

I guess it comes down to making the definition more based around what it isn't than what it is.
