I once walked where you now stand,
Until my body left this land,
As I am now so you shall be,
Step out of life and follow me

who
what
when
where????

Maybe an oversimplistic solution:  The dead? The Dinosaurus?

And if so, is it really "hard"?

Christ?

I dunno. Christ usually hung out around Bethlehem and Jerusalem and stuff. He's didn't walk near where I am, that's for sure.

I have to agree with BNC. Either "the dead" or "dinosaurs" (or any of a number of variants on that theme) fits the riddle perfectly. If neither is the correct answer, then I say that this is not a good riddle.

Any comments from xtreme1?

Certainly some fitting answers are;

the dead
the dinasours
ancestors, grandparents etc.

how about youth

That doesn't quite fit. But what are the follow-on questions all about. Who, what, when, and where.  This sounds like a basic "Who am I riddle." The addition of these other questions leads me to believe that xtreme1 himself doesn't know the answer. That he heard, or more likely read it someplace, without benefit of having its complete format.
He then assumed, correctly, the answer would appear here if he posted it, with the supplementary questions to be sure all bases were covered.

Maybe I'm wrong, any comments from the horses mouth?

Those answers seem pretty morbid to me. Step out of life and follow [the dead]? Sounds like a invitation to suicide  :o

As xtreme2 seems to be away, I tried Googling. Found this from an old tomb:

My beloved Lima sleeps in Jesus. But I shall
see her again.
Oh think of me as you pass by
As you are now so once was I
As I am now so you shall be
Prepare in life to follow me.

Seems similar?

Also found this as "a popular old New England Gravestone Epitaph;"
Stranger Stop and cast an Eye; As you are now so once was I, As I am now So You Shall be; Prepare for Death and Follow Me!"

Just wanted to say thank you to all who answered... I did not know the answer but thought my answer of "The Dead" was too easy.  I am glad to have more input from educated people.  I did read it somewhere but needed some substantiation.  You guys rock... until next time... live life to the
