I start with four. Cut one off, three will fall, and 5 will remain. What am I?

It burns me up that I didn't get this one sooner.

I don't think this is the answer but I was thinking of four walls and a roof. Oh well, just a thought.

I thought cho had cornered the market on answers, but I don't get his answer this time...

Maybe I'm just... L-7

We're even, cuz I have no idea what L-7 means. It was a poor hint, and I'm not sure my answer is what aero was thinking of but if you think food, you're getting warmer. My guess: big hint [hide] a four letter word, minus "one"=5 [/hide}

Oops, I can run, but apparently I can't hide (or type).

I wasn't thinking about food...

except to eat three square meals a day...

L7 is just something kids when I was a kid used to call kids that weren't groovey...

You probably need to have attended my elementary school to have heard L7 used...  ::)

If you'd ever eaten at my house, you'd know why "burnt" was the first word that came to my mind from the riddle.

Do you cook yourself?  ;)

The best answer I've come up with so far is related to Miami, but I'm a bit uncomfortable with the falling part.

Speaker got it.  His first post gives the answer away.

I still don't get it.  :(
I suppose the part of Speaker's post that gives it away is:
 [hide]  L-7     (interpreting L as a roman numeral)[/hide]

I can see how "four" and "three" relate, but what about the "5"?

This doesn't have anything to do with a certain game, does it?

L-7 = red herring

There are really two parts to this riddle.  The first is, what am I?  The second is, "What is the thing you are cutting off, dropping to the ground, and remaining?"

So there's another perfectly good answer of mine that's completely wrong. And I thought [hide]oven[/hide] fit perfectly. Four letters, get rid of "one", three letters fall leaving 5.

I must admit I got the 'correct' answer before I finished reading the question, but your answer, Cho, is very ingenious. If that had been the one aero_guy wanted, no way would I have got it. Your brain is wired up in a very intriguing manner.  :)

I was wondering what the answer you had come up with was cho.  Interesting way of working backwords.
