Title: Bugs Bunny was one

Bugs Bunny was one version of me,
but I'm another.
You may have more of me
than your big brother.
I could be many different colours,
but truly only one.
The coppers use me
to get the job done.

What am I?

For some of us this could be a losing proposition, but obviously not for Maryl.

I'm not sure how the last sentence applies though.

although not as poetic as the first part of the riddle, maybe the last refers to DNA testing

The answer isn't a list, it's only one thing. I think Icarus may have got it.

Speaker got it too, try combining the answer with each of the objects on the list.  The pasta took a couple secs to get, very cute.

One definitely has more big brothers than one's big brother.
"The Big Brother" is associated with the color red; the
"Big Brother" (surveillance) techniques are utilized by the police.
I'm not familiar with the Bugs Bunny character, so I'm not sure if my answer applies; but the rest is quite unequivocal. :)

Leonid
Your answer is a bit Orwellian

Ya, let's not go splitting any hairs over this.
