Title: What Is "Alive without breath..."

Alive withoutbreath, as cold as death, never thirsty, ever drinking, all in mail never clinking.  What is it?

OK turtler, I’ve been starring at your puzzle for several minnows and can’t think of how to phrase it either.  I asked my friend Gill, but he’s kinda hard of herring, so no luck.  I’m gonna take some aspirins ... all this has given me a big haddock. ;)

I think I got the answer, but is that part about all in mail never clinking just a red herring.

Maybe somebody could throw me a line.

I'm not sure either about this "all in mail never clinking" bit. ???

As for a thread title:
Think about using the beginning of the riddle itself (at least for the What-am-Is), like "Alive without breath".
If you modify the title of the first post in a thread, it will also change the thread title.

If I’m not mistaken, Gollum said, “clad in mail never clinking” =>[hide]mail (noun) flexible armor composed of small overlapping metal rings or loops of chain.[/hide]

No, I did not do that on porpoise. Now don't be shellfish and admit you knew it. My sole intention was to clarify this point.

OK so u know where i got it lol.  Could be diferent version of the book i read.  Dunno but it still the same riddle.  I have enjoyed many of these responces...  They are rather funny to someone that knows the answer.
