Title: Dies half it's life

Dies, half its life,
Lives the rest.
Dances without music;
Breathes without breath.

What is it?

I'd say [hide]fire[/hide]

Well that's a nice guess but how do you figure it dies for half it's life? And I believe it also needs air to breathe.

I would like to guess [hide] leaves on a tree, maybe a maple tree. They live in the spring and summer, and die in the fall and winter. They dance in the wind, and breathe... Well it doesn't fit perfectly, but they do breathe in a way. [/hide]

Maryl, I think every 'living' thing dies half it's life, otherwise all the answers above wouldn't be right. English is not my first language, but I think that [hide]the fire dies[/hide] is the same as [hide]the fire stops to burn[/hide].

You're right that it needs air, but i't doesn't breathe as you stated in the riddle

K, your answer could work depending on how you look at the riddle.
I am curious to know how you think every "living" thing dies for half it's life.

  Is it by any chance a [hide] "  shadow  " ? it dies during night-time (if there is no light), dances when in front of a flickering light, and sort of "breathes" without breath, when you are breathing. [/hide]

The answer I had was already pretty much given above, and I really thought your answer was quite inventive.
