Title: Where am I? - In Great Britain again
Post by jollytall on Dec 10th, 2006, 4:21am
Following the example in Japan (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=what_am_i;action=display;num=1155211379) we started our journey around the world in Great Britain (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=what_am_i;action=display;num=1157473314). We are now just over 80 days and saw nine great destinations besides GB in Hungary (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=what_am_i;action=display;num=1157524526), Egypt (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=what_am_i;action=display;num=1157657248), India (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=what_am_i;action=display;num=1159951718), Malaysia (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=what_am_i;action=display;num=1161801168), Australia (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=what_am_i;action=display;num=1162134956), Brazil (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=what_am_i;action=display;num=1162972426), the US (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=what_am_i;action=display;num=1163186906) and Canada (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=what_am_i;action=display;num=1164229811). Finally we are back to Great Britain again.

Here are my last four postcards from this journey.

First postcard:
Do you like the music of Rod Stewart and Gavin Sutherland?

Second postcard:
See attachment:

Third postcard:
Shall I bring you a cup of tea?

Fourth postcard:
Since I moved back to GB, I like Whisky more than anything else.

So, let's meet.

P.S. To make it more difficult for the enemy agents (and those don't have the solution) and to have a bit more fun, let's still use the absolute GPS positions instead of a descriptive solution.

Well.. Rod Stewart was [hide]born in Highgate, London, [/hide][hide]England[/hide] (thanks to Wikipedia) and Gavin Sutherland was [hide]born in Peterhead, Scotland... [/hide]

It is so sad that after all that long travel we cannot meet at the final destination.

I am lonely. Please meet me before Christmas eve...

Needless to say, I was said to be alone in GB for Christmas. Please join me. If you need some help, please let me know. Although one of the cards is much more than a hint, it practically gives away the solution in one go. Yes, I know it is the most difficult one.

It seems you need a bit of a help.

So in
#1, the and is an AND.
#2 gives away the solution immediately (but I don't think many of you know what it is).
#3 take it literally (not the shall and the cup though).
#4 Actually it is the other way round. Those who drink whiskey like me.

I am so sad. The first 10 were solved in no time. Now the last one even after some spoilers is still unsolved. So I have to give really big hints. Please try without them, or using only few.

#1. [hide]What is the title of the song that both of them contributed. So it is a real AND.[/hide]
#2. [hide]If you do not know the title of the painting, and cannot find it, then this is really not a big help. But can be excellent to double check your solution, once you have it.[/hide]
#3. [hide]Who brought tea?[/hide]
#3. double help. [hide]Actually "What", not "Who".[/hide]
#4. [hide]And a big transformation, from bringing tea into whiskey.[/hide]

Well, if it helps anyone, #1 would be [hide]Sailing[/hide], but I'm not sure where that leads to...

ok,

I got [hideb]sailing[/hideb], but then there's 2: [hideb]a highlander on a white horse. Hmm. [/hideb] 3 is [hideb]ships (it was the Dutch and the Portuguese that brought tea to Europe on ships)[/hideb] and then there's 4: Something with [hideb]smuggling?[/hideb]

ok, there's a shipwreck in Scotland called the San Tiburico (also known as "San Ti", get it? Tea?) and there's a company called White Horse that takes you there. I'm pretty sure that's not the answer, but it's would have been a really nice answer!

Finally some good steps into the right direction. But not there yet.

I keep thinking [hide]Skye[/hide] - as in [hide]Bonnie Prince Charlie / Skye Boat Song[/hide], but I'm not sure if that's him in the picture

maybe an extra hint on the guy on the horse?

OK, I sort of give up. So:

Sailing, bringing tea, but  recently more a whiskey.

Keep the picture as a double check once you know the solution. Just enter the solution plus "painting" in google images and you will immediately know whether you were right or wrong.

Ok, so you really want the painting. Then don't look at the man on the hoarse. Instead look at what she is wearing.

[hideb]Cutty sark!!!!!![/hideb]
sailing + whiskey should really have been enough!!

I thought so too. But sailing, bringing tea and then a whiskey, should have been really enough.

Anyway better later than never.
