Our 9th annual lecture series on Contemporary Health Issues in the AAPI Community (“Break the Silence”) is coming to an end! The last session is an inspiring session with guest speakers who have dedicated themselves to social change. We invite you to this year’s session. The event is free and open to the public. It will take place this Wednesday 4/26/2017 from 6-8pm at 554 Barrows Hall. Below are a list of the wonderful guest speakers this week.
Mr. Mike Tran – Lifelong community activist and current program coordinator at the Spot Youth Center in Oakland Chinatown, sees the world through an Ethnic Studies lens and values liberation, self-determination and love above all else.
Dr. Joan Jeung – Pediatrician at Asian Health Services and community activist in East Oakland, works with newly arriving Burmese refugees and Mongolian immigrants, serves in multiple national leadership and advisory positions with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and is also a member of the executive committee for the AAP’s new provisional section for Minority Health, Equity and Inclusion.
Mr. Joe Lee – Workforce Development Strategist at the Alameda Health Consortium and Community Health Center Network, provides healthcare consulting for eight non-profit community health center organizations, and is passionate about building tomorrow’s workforce to advance health equity and social justice for underserved communities.
