Blue Mountains National Park       January 15, 2005

While visiting Cliff in Sydney, Rex and I took a day trip up to the beautiful Blue Mountains. The main entrance to Blue Mountains National Park is a two-hour, very scenic train ride from Sydney. Unfortunately Rex and I only had an afternoon to spend, so we couldn't go on any long adventures, but we did get to see some of the superb scenery that makes this one of Australia's most famous and popular national parks.

Amber and Rex at a viewing platform, with Echo Point in the background. (If you look closely you can see the Three Sisters, three pinnacles of rock.)

We took the skycar (pictured here) down to the bottom of the valley, and then climbed back up. The skycar was packed with tourists of every nationality.

The Three Sisters can more clearly be seen in this picture. It was a lovely cloudy day, with the cumulus clouds casting shadows that moved across the carpet of forest on the valley floor.

The plant life was incredible - everywhere we looked there were different species of ferns, shrubs, mosses, flowers, herbs, and trees. One fern species had coppery-red foliage, as you can see on the left.

We saw many waterfalls as we hiked back up the cliff face. This one was fenced off from the trail, but we wanted to see it up close so we ignored the fence! Standing on these broad flat ledges of rock, we marveled at the tiny plants growing in the mist, and at the mountain vista spread below us.
